Extracurricular Activities
A primary focus of Carlbrook is to foster the development of skills and strategies that students will adopt in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle long after their graduation from the school. As such, numerous opportunities for athletic, artistic, theatre and musical outlets are offered.
Intramural Sports
- Each fall, Carlbrook School takes the opportunity for its students to interact with local youth by entering its intramural soccer team in the Halifax County AYSO league. Given its emphasis on character development and good sportsmanship, AYSO has been a positive atmosphere for Carlbrook students to continue their growth into becoming successful, well-rounded individuals.
- The Halifax County softball league provides an opportunity each spring for Carlbrook students to join with faculty members in regular, weekend games against local community teams. The school softball team has served as a fun way for students and faculty to interact on the weekends, joining their competitive spirits toward a winning record each season.
- Several times throughout the year, Carlbrook students have the opportunity to participate in 5K Races throughout the community. Emphasizing regular physical activity as a part of the core curriculum, students are encouraged to enter these events regardless of their past experience or current fitness level, often resulting in newfound confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
Theatre and Dance
- Under the direction and guidance of its talented teaching faculty, the students of Carlbrook School have the opportunity to participate in at least two theatre productions each year. Involvement can range from starring as the lead role to organizing production behind the scenes depending on the interest of each student.
- A variety of dance courses are offered through the academic curriculum on a regular basis, including ballroom, ballet and hip-hop. Opportunities to expand upon these interests are routinely provided during evening and weekend hours.
Visual Arts
- Carlbrook School prides itself on its robust art curriculum offered under the skilled guidance of instructor Matthew Stafford. Providing masterful, detailed instruction, students have the opportunity to develop their skills both inside the classroom and through regular access to the art studio during evening and weekend hours. Painting, drawing and ceramics are the primary emphasis of Mr. Stafford's course offerings, and student artwork is regularly displayed throughout the campus of Carlbrook School for all to enjoy.
