In accordance with the mission of Carlbrook School, a considerable emphasis is placed on the value of leadership and service among its students. Fostering the development toward becoming contributing members of the community is one important method for building the skills that make Carlbrook students routinely at the forefront of their chosen disciplines long after they graduate from the school. Knowing that interests can vary widely among students, Carlbrook School takes great pride in offering a large number of committees, clubs and additional activities on a regular basis to ensure that there are opportunities for everyone to develop these important skills.
Opportunities for Leadership
Honor Council
Highly selective criteria, based on both academic performance and overall community involvement, makes membership to the Honor Council one of the most respected student positions at Carlbrook School. Under the close guidance from faculty, members of the council are responsible for imposing fair and reasonable consequences to students who have failed to conduct themselves in accordance with the honor code and expectations of the school.
Student Government
Comprised of six positions encompassing the vast areas of interest on campus, membership to the government is based on election by Carlbrook faculty and students. A considerable amount of time, dedication and effort goes into the responsibility of representing the student body. Members work closely with faculty on a regular basis to coordinate a variety of community events and campus initiatives.
Dorm Prefect
Providing leadership in the dorms is an important responsibility, both in terms of modeling appropriate conduct, as well as mentoring newer students who are making the adjustment to Carlbrook School. The prefect position is reserved for students who have demonstrated consistent ability to hold others accountable to the rules and expectations of the dorm, and represent themselves throughout the campus in a way that warrants genuine respect from their peers.
Committee Head
Carlbrook School offers numerous student-run committees on its campus, covering a wide range of pursuits, including sports, community service and the arts. Each term, members of these committees select the student they feel will best represent their interests to the student government and faculty. Among the many duties associated with this position include coordination with the faculty sponsor of their committee in writing by-laws, requesting financial support for desired events and ensuring regular meetings with its members take place.
